Out-of-District Courses
Overview

Definition of Credit: One semester period of credit typically requires 40–60 minutes of instruction per week for 17 weeks (or 12 clock hours).

Outside Courses: Students may take up to four out-of-district, UC-approved courses during high school. These require pre-approval from the principal/designee and do not receive extra grade weighting (AP/Honors).

Online & Correspondence: Credit is available for courses from the University of California or other accredited institutions, provided they meet A-G requirements and follow the pre-approval process.

Summer School: Private summer school courses must be UC-approved or aligned with California standards and include at least 120 instructional hours.
Eligibility for Outside Credits
Out-of-district courses are typically approved for:

Electives or foreign languages not offered at the school.

Credit recovery for grades of D+ or lower.

Course acceleration or resolving scheduling conflicts.
